How Lucky Tile Listings Work
Lucky Tile Company is a national directory for recurring mahjong games and lessons. This guide explains how listings are organized, what the fields mean, and how to use the directory effectively.
What "recurring" means
The Lucky Tile Company directory focuses on recurring mahjong games and lessons: tables that meet on a regular schedule such as weekly, biweekly, monthly, or as part of a seasonal series. One-time events and private invitation-only games are generally not included unless they repeat on a published calendar.
Recurring does not mean guaranteed. Schedules can change due to holidays, venue closures, capacity limits, or host availability. Always confirm with the host before attending a session. Contact information appears on every listing detail page.
How to read a city table
City index pages organize listings into two groups: Games and Lessons. Each row in the table shows:
- Name — The listing title. Click it to view the full detail page.
- Ruleset — A badge indicating the mahjong tradition: American for American Mah Jongg, Riichi for Japanese mahjong, Hong Kong for Cantonese-style, Taiwanese for Taiwanese mahjong, or Other for Chinese Official (MCR) and mixed-style tables.
- When — The cadence (Mondays, Monthly, Select dates) and time if available. "See website" means the host publishes the schedule on their own site or calendar.
- Where — The neighborhood, venue, or general area. Full addresses appear on the listing detail page.
Listings are not ranked. The order within each section reflects the directory's internal organization and does not imply quality, popularity, or endorsement.
Games versus Lessons
Games are recurring open play, drop-in tables, social clubs, or leagues. These listings assume participants already know how to play or are comfortable learning by watching. Lessons are structured classes, workshops, private instruction, or beginner-focused sessions designed to teach mahjong fundamentals or advanced strategy.
If you're new to mahjong, start with the Lessons section. If you already know a ruleset and want to practice, browse Games.
What the verification date means
Every listing detail page includes a verification date such as "Verified Aug 2026." This date indicates when Lucky Tile Company last reviewed the listing for accuracy—not when someone last attended the game. Verification confirms that the host's published information was current as of that month, but it does not guarantee the table is still meeting or that capacity is available.
Listings are reverified periodically, and hosts are encouraged to report changes as soon as they occur. If you notice outdated information, contact us at hello@luckytile.co so we can update the directory.
Always confirm with the host
Mahjong games and lessons are organized by independent hosts—libraries, community centers, instructors, clubs, and volunteers. Lucky Tile Company is a directory, not the organizer. We publish the information provided by hosts and publicly available sources, but we cannot guarantee that a session will occur on any given date.
Before attending a game or lesson:
- Check the host's website or calendar for the most current schedule.
- Contact the host using the information on the listing detail page to confirm the session is happening.
- Ask about capacity limits, registration requirements, and what to bring (tiles, cards, or other materials).
This step is especially important for games marked "See website" or for listings that note rotating venues, seasonal schedules, or limited capacity.
Sponsored placements
Some listings in the directory are sponsored. Sponsored placements are labeled clearly and may appear in a highlighted position on city pages. Sponsorship allows a host to increase visibility, but it does not change the factual information shown in the listing. Sponsored and non-sponsored listings follow the same format and editorial standards.
Editorial listings—tables that are included in the directory at no cost—are not pay-to-play. Any host or player can submit a game or lesson for review. Listings are evaluated based on whether the information is complete, whether the table is recurring, and whether it fits the directory's scope.
Editorial independence
Lucky Tile Company is an independent directory. We do not represent the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL), any rules organization, venue, host, or instructor unless a listing explicitly states otherwise. We do not charge players to access the directory, and we do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage.
Our role is to organize publicly available information about mahjong games and lessons so players can make informed decisions. Hosts control their own listings and are responsible for the accuracy of the details they provide. Players are responsible for confirming schedules and contacting hosts before attending.
Who we are not
Lucky Tile Company is a mahjong directory and community resource. We are not:
- Lucky Tile Co, the tile and stone contractor in Chatsworth, California.
- Lucky Tile Mahjong Events in Vancouver, Canada (luckytilemahjong.com).
If you're looking for tile installation or Vancouver-area mahjong events, please contact those businesses directly.
Submit a listing or request changes
Hosts and players can submit a game or lesson for review. We evaluate each submission to confirm it includes the necessary details (ruleset, schedule, location, cost, level) and that it's a recurring table. Once approved, the listing is published on the appropriate city page.
To request changes, corrections, or removal of a listing, contact us at hello@luckytile.co. Include the listing name and city, and describe the update you're requesting. We'll review it and make the change if appropriate.
