Mahjong lessons and games in San Francisco
Want to learn mahjong in San Francisco? Start with a free SFPL Mahjong for Beginners class in the Sunset, a shared Hong Kong 101 with Mahjong with Kim in Chinatown, or the learner table at United Dumplings in Bernal Heights.
San Francisco lists 15 games (12 in the city, 3 around the Bay Area) and 3 beginner options. Teaching Tuesday and Saturday Mahjong Night (Secret Mahjong Society) play Hong Kong in the Financial District. Mamahuhu hosts Monday games in Noe Valley and Inner Richmond. United Dumplings and the Asian Art Museum run mixed-style sessions. SFPL Sunset Branch, Golden Gate Park Senior Center, and other community tables host drop-in play. Riichi players can try Pacific Mahjong League in Fremont; the next learn-to-play dates are November 8, 14, and 15, 2026.
Lessons include SFPL Sunset beginner classes, BEC sessions in SoMa, and Mahjong with Kim's Hong Kong 101 workshops plus private instruction in Chinatown and citywide.
